1. “out of sight, out of mind” translated as the Italian equivalent of “invisible maniac”

2. “hanky panky” became “mouchoir pouchoir”

3. pupil who thought that “moi aussi” meant “I’m an Australian”

4. S1 pupils being taught French numbers & were asked to add up sums in their heads – final answer to be given in French. Some pupils decided to use calculators, at which point a wee girl told the teacher that those using calculators would get the wrong answer. When asked why, she said “it’s simple. You need a French calculator to get the right answer with French sums. That lot are using Japanese ones!”
